Moreover, stress is a normal, necessary and immediate reaction to various factors and stressful situations, thanks to which the body mobilizes physical, emotional and intellectual abilities to resist, fight, escape or adapt to these changes. A completely different thing is the long-term presence of the nervous system in chronic stress, which can have complex consequences for the human body as a whole and lead to the development of depressive states. And what is chronic stress, what are the signs of stress and how to deal with it, we will tell you later in the publication.<\/p>\n<h2>Stress response mechanisms: what happens in the body<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#039;s start with the fact that chronic stress is a state of prolonged psychological and physical tension. That is, it is the body&#039;s reaction to stress, namely to external or internal stimuli that affect it for a fairly long time.<\/p>\n<p>And how does chronic stress affect health? During a feeling of anxiety or an acute stressful situation, the body, namely the adrenal glands, actively produces the so-called \u201cstress hormones\u201d \u2013 adrenaline and cortisol. In addition to the production of hormones, cardiovascular and metabolic functions are triggered to combat stress. If a person experiences acute stress constantly, the adrenal glands and hypothalamus work in \u201cenhanced mode\u201d, and the body&#039;s organs are on \u201ccombat alert\u201d in order to instantly respond to various stimuli. If the stress trigger is not overcome, the glucocorticoid-dependent negative feedback mechanism (GDFR) is not triggered, and glucocorticoid receptor resistance develops.<\/p>\n<h2>The main causes of chronic stress<\/h2>\n<p>Currently, chronic stress can develop due to many reasons. The most popular reasons for the development of chronic stress include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Pressure at work. As a rule, constant pressure at work, conflict situations in the team, and excessive workload can lead to the appearance of the first symptoms of chronic stress.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Problems in your personal life. Troubles and problems with a loved one (long separation or divorce), loss of a loved one, family conflicts, financial difficulties, and even experiencing a serious injury or illness - all of this can lead to the development of a chronic stress state.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Changes in life. Unexpected changes in life, including moving to another city or country, being fired or changing jobs, having a first child, as well as stressful events such as war, can cause a person to experience certain difficulties in their usual routine, namely the need to quickly adapt to new circumstances and situations.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Poor ecological situation and unfavorable environment. The conditions in which a person is constantly located, in particular, everyday life, region and living conditions, have not only a direct impact on the body, but also affect its emotional state. For example, constant city noise or excessively polluted air not only cause headaches. They can also affect the development of chronic stress, as can living in seismically active zones or on the territory of unstable countries with tense geopolitical relations.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Unhealthy lifestyle. Harmful habits, including alcohol, drug use, and smoking, lack of physical activity, unbalanced or insufficient nutrition, and sleep problems, significantly increase emotional vulnerability and stressful situations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Symptoms of chronic stress<\/h2>\n<p>All symptoms of chronic stress are divided into 2 separate groups: physical and psychological. Thus, the group of physical signs of chronic stress includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">a constant feeling of fatigue and an irresistible desire to sleep;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Weak immune system and vulnerability to colds or other infectious diseases;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">constant headaches, migraine attacks, aches and muscle tension;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">problems with the gastrointestinal tract, including indigestion, gastritis, peptic ulcer or duodenal ulcer;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">unstable heart function and high blood pressure;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">rapid weight change as a result of lack or, conversely, excessive appetite;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">sexual dysfunction in both men and women and loss of interest in sexual relations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stress also affects the nervous system. Therefore, common psychological symptoms of a person suffering from chronic stress include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">systematic anxiety, tension and restlessness;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">a stable feeling of irritation, resentment and loss of control over emotions;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">unreasonable and rapid mood swings;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">sadness, lack of good mood and feeling of joy, as well as constant depression and loss of desire to do favorite things or hobbies;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">suppression of intellectual abilities, inability to concentrate, memory problems and inability to make any, even simple, decisions;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">constant feeling of fear, obsessive thoughts about bad things and panic attacks;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">powerlessness, lack of motivation and enthusiasm to perform routine household chores or work duties;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">disruption of a healthy sleep pattern, prolonged insomnia, and difficulty recovering from sleep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What chronic diseases can be the consequences of chronic stress?<\/h2>\n<p>Most chronic diseases or external illnesses, as well as various types of addictions, develop as a result of chronic stress. For example, chronic stress can lead to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">heart disease and hypertension;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">insulin-dependent type I;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">type II diabetes;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">excessive obesity;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">inflammatory processes in the joints;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">alcohol, tobacco, drug, gambling, as well as addiction to certain medications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How long-term stress affects the human body<\/h2>\n<p>Long-term or chronic stress puts strain on the nervous system and has negative consequences and effects on the body as a whole. So what makes chronic stress difficult?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Cardiovascular system. Constant stress affects the heart and contributes to an accelerated heartbeat, which is why there is a high risk of heart attack or stroke. Stress also has a negative effect on blood pressure - during the release of adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol, the pressure rises rapidly.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Endocrine system. Chronic stress also has negative consequences for the endocrine system of the body. Since stress produces excessive amounts of cortisol, and the long-term effect of this hormone causes disruption of the immune system, which, in turn, leads to chronic fatigue, immune and metabolic disorders.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Reproductive system: Stress can cause decreased libido in men, erectile dysfunction or impotence, and decreased sperm production. In women, it can cause changes in the menstrual cycle and problems conceiving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How to treat chronic stress?<\/h2>\n<p>Self-medication can be harmful to your health, and therefore drug therapy, including antidepressants and other medications, is prescribed by a qualified psychologist. Therefore, first of all, you should seek help from specialists. There are also other methods and methods of treatment that quite often complement drug therapy - these are the so-called stress management practices. Doctors advise to follow these basic rules to improve your emotional state and recover from stressful triggers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">do sports and walk in the fresh air;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">balanced and healthy diet, as well as maintaining water balance;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">give up bad habits and limit trigger factors;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">implement time management techniques in everyday life and at work;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">set realistic goals and objectives and achieve them;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">establish or restore a sleep routine and stick to it;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">maintain a balance between work and rest;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">learn to control attention and tame emotional fluctuations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Effective methods for reducing chronic stress and improving well-being<\/h2>\n<p>Chronic stress and health are two very closely related factors, and therefore it is important, in addition to antidepressants, sleeping pills and other medications, to find effective methods to reduce chronic stress, restore emotional balance and improve overall well-being. Here are some methods to combat stress triggers:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Information hygiene. Everyone needs to be aware of what is happening in the world, but if you are an emotionally unstable person, reduce watching, listening to, and reading the news and definitely do not do it before going to bed and immediately after waking up.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Meditation and breathing practices. Meditation can help relieve emotional tension, distract from negative thoughts and states, and proper breathing can free the brain, reduce nervous system activity, and restore physical and emotional well-being.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Rest, relaxation and unwinding. Distract yourself from negative thoughts and stressful situations by doing things that bring you positive emotions, joy and satisfaction. This can be reading a book or drawing, playing a musical instrument, watching your favorite TV series, meeting with loved ones or taking a mini-trip.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Communication. When stressful situations arise, you should not close yourself off and hide from people. On the contrary, you should share your problems with friends you trust and who support you.
